LtCol Luke Weathers Memphis Memorial and Funeral

LtCol Luke Weathers died on Oct 15, 2011 at the age of 91 in Tucson, AZ.He was a member of the famed WW II Tuskegee Airmen. The Tuskegee Airmen were the first Black pilots in the military. He was credited with shooting down two German fighter aircraft while on an escort mission to protect US Army Air Corps bombers in Europe. He paved the way for many African Americans in following generations to become military pilots, airline pilots and astronauts. Many have stood on the shoulders of the Tuskegee Airmen and what they did 70 years ago. Luke Weathers was born in Grenada, MS and grew up in Memphis, TN where he was known as the "Memphis Bomber".


1) Memorial Services on Fri, Oct 28, 2011 at 12:00 - 4:00 pm.  LtCol Weathers will lay in state/vigil from 12-4 for general public viewing and the wake will begin at 5:00 pm -8:00 pm

 

2)Funeral Services on Sat, Oct 29, 2011 at 11:00 am

 

3) The Family request in lieu of flowers that memorial donations be directed to the "TAI-Memphis Chapter LtCol Luke Weathers Scholarship Awards Memorial Fund", with checks payable to "Memphis Chapter - TAI" at PO Box 381886, Germantown, TN 38183-1886.

 

4) Deposit may also be made to the "TAI-Memphis Chapter LtCol Luke Weathers Scholarship Awards Memorial Fund" at any First Tennessee National Bank. No account number is required for donors to make deposits at any 1st TN Bank. Memphis Chapter - TAI is a Tax-Exempt 501 (c) (3) Organization.
